In recent times the Nigerian entertainment industry is experiencing a heavy influx of new songs and performing acts producing improved works as against the backdrop of past productions.
Note: A good song is a creative artistry that should feature correctly the 3 element of music, which are melody, rhythm and harmony.
The album ‘Spotlight’ is simply a standard in the Nigerian music terrain, firstly for its melodious tune, less-vulgerous lyrics, well pitched delivery and properly implemented quality/timber which helps in the choice of right tones for the instrumentation of the tracks.
Every track on the album is uniquely nested, from ‘Na your boy’ that tells a story and ‘Ola’ that is a prayerful track, which also connects to the listeners, because everyone loves prayer.
A close study of the tracks subliminally reveals Reekado’s unalloyed effort, by reason of his improvement overtime, without any disrespect to his management and production team.
Another amazing track is ‘Turn’, composed using ‘Adante’, meaning slowly composed dragging tone that defines a master piece, well-rendered using mezzo piano(moderately soft) as the rendition style, which systematically cresends in smooth coherence with a constant time signature, as the pitch/note on the higher scale was perfectly strucked, coupled with his familiar delivery technique that resonates soothing melody. ‘Katapot’, ‘Oluwani’ and ‘Standard’ adopts same musical count that ends the track amidst happy cheers.
While i yet nurture my reservations, i can’t but notice the tremendeous improvement in his tenor voice as it perfectly sits on key and sharply interpretes both upper and lower voice register.
Generally i think the Spotlight album redefines Reekado and i’ll rate it 4 star out of 5, because it adopts the synergy of good composition, production and rendition, which is the whole essence of a song, and it appeals to the present market not to mention the enormous playtime it gets.
Without despising decorum, Reekado’s Spotlight album is safe to listen to as it devoids vulgar and any form of tantrum, not to talk of its message that connects to people of different class stratification.
